Orbit Round Crossbody
A round leather crossbody bag is difficult to pattern. Leather wants to fall into flat planes, so most circular bags cheat: a foam insert, a plastic disc, a stiffener glued between the layers that eventually creases and shows. Our workshop in Udaipur cuts the Orbit so the curve is held by the panels themselves and by the seam that joins them. No insert, no disc. It took several rounds of pattern work to get there, and the reason we bother is that a bag propped up by foam looks like a bag propped up by foam.
The result is 7" across and 3" deep in full-grain leather, weighing 1.5 lb (0.7 kg). It takes a phone, large ones included, a compact wallet, keys and small essentials. As a round leather crossbody bag it is a statement shape rather than a workhorse, so treat the capacity as fixed and plan around it.
A dry cloth keeps it clean, and a conditioner every few months keeps the curved panels supple.
Do round crossbody bags lose their shape over time?
This one should not. The structure comes from how the panels are cut and seamed, not from a filler that can collapse.
